Founded by Nikka’s creator, Masataka Taketsuru, the distillery began operations in 1969, nestled in a valley in Miyagi prefecture. Taketsuru envisioned a stark contrast between his two distilleries—Miyagikyo and Yoichi—each shaped by distinct natural surroundings and production techniques.
Miyagikyo malts are renowned for their elegance and fruit-forward character. Crafted from both lightly peated and non-peated malted barley, these whiskies are distilled in pot stills heated by indirect steam, imparting a signature fruitiness and a delicate, smooth mouthfeel.
